Mr. Hop and Mrs. Ryder's classes had a wonderful time visiting the dairy farm today. We learned so much about the process of getting milk from the cow to the grocery stores. We learned about what the cows eat (quite a sophisticated diet with just the right amount of grains, proteins, syrups, etc.). We got to see a cow give birth to a baby calf... a bouncing 94 lb. baby! Cows carry their babies for 9 months just like we humans. We got to see the cows living quarters, where they get milked three times a day and feed the baby calves milk. It was a perfect day to take a trip to the farm. Apparently, we all smelled very bad when we came back to the school... LOL :)

My third graders are so excited about their hands-on economy projects. They are getting real world experience in creating a business, name it, advertising for it, and budgeting for it. On Monday, they will have Sale Day to see how successful all of their labors have been. They are working hard on their advertisement posters and learning to work in a group (a hard task for 3rd graders). They are all such wonderful kids and little entrepreneurs!!! It is amazing how quick they get their desks cleaned when the Desk Fairy comes flying in... not to mention clean desks get a treat... :) |
